MLK Day Events

The Somerset-Pulaski County community will celebrate MLK Day with a series of weekend events. Mark your calendars for the following, which are all open to the public:

8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12: MLK Unity Breakfast at Somerset Community College with guest speaker the Rev. Norman Franklin

2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14: MLK Community Celebration at First Baptist Church – Somerset, KY with guest speaker Dr. Marty Mills

11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15 (MLK Day): Annual MLK Unity March. Participants should meet in the parking lot of Davis Chapel Ame Church, and the group will march together to The Virginia for a free showing of the movie Selma. Concessions will be available (cash or card — popcorn, candy and drinks).

10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16: National Day of Racial Healing Proclamation Signing. Join us in the Council Chambers at the Somerset Energy Center as Mayor Alan Keck signs a proclamation recognizing Jan. 16 as National Day of Racial Healing.
