Somerset Utilities makes changes to billing policy

Utilities July 2, 2021

SET Billing Changes 1920x1080 1

In an effort to streamline due dates and payment collection processes, Somerset Utilities is changing its billing policy effective July 1, 2021.

If you are a Somerset Utilities customer, here is what you need to know about this change:

What does this mean for me?

All Somerset Utilities customers will now be on the same monthly billing cycle. If your bill is normally due on the 30th of each month, it will now be due on the 15th.

When will the new billing start?

The first bill of the new monthly billing cycle will be mailed July 30, 2021. It will be due Aug. 15, 2021. It will follow the same pattern every month thereafter.

What happens if I don’t pay my bill on time?

A 5 percent late fee will applied on the 16th day of every month. Late and disconnect notices will be mailed on the 20th day of every month, giving the customer an extension to pay until 4 p.m. on the 25th.

When are utilities disconnected for non-payment?

Disconnection day is the 26th of each month (or the following Monday if the 26th falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday).

A reconnection fee on delinquent accounts will be added to the balance on the 25th of each month after 4 p.m. This will allow the customer to pay their delinquent account online even after disconnection.

It is the customer’s responsibility to call Somerset Utilities at 606.679.6366 and request reinstatement. Verification of payment will be made by utility clerks before reconnection.

Any balances paid after 3 p.m. will not be reconnected until the following business day. The City of Somerset reserves the right to take 24 hours to reinstate service once it has been disconnected. However, we will make every effort to reinstate the same business day.

THERE WILL BE NO DISCONNECTS IN JULY BECAUSE OF THIS BILLING CHANGE. This gives all customers one month to pay balances and make accounts current.

How can I avoid late charges?

To avoid the worry of late fees and service disconnection, Somerset Utilities offers automatic bank draft from a checking account. When an account is set up on auto draft, the total payment is drafted from the customer’s checking account on the 15th day of each month. To begin using this service, simply bring this completed form or your routing and checking account numbers to the Somerset Utilities office. It typically takes four weeks for the auto draft to begin.

For more information or if you have questions about these billing changes, please call Somerset Utilities at 606.679.6366 or send the office an email.
